Introducing; The Self-Kindness Challenge

People ask me ALL the time, how I got to be so confident. I always tell them that it’s a really long, often fraught process that doesn’t come easily. Getting back in touch with yourself, and who you are isn’t a one size fits all process. It’s …. a shit show. For lack of a better word(s). It’s highly dependant on each unique individual and it needs daily, often hourly attention. Like the worlds most high maintenance plant. Which might be a bad example because I kill every plant I own. Nevertheless!

I want to provide insight into how I got to where I am, and I fear a guide might be exhaustive and long. I think for a lot of us, it’s hard to just get started. So I thought a self-kindness challenge would be in order. Spanning one month, with a weekly blog post and challenges for you to do to level up your relationship with yourself.

Let’s breakdown why it’s called the self kindness challenge, and not the self love challenge.

Culturally we like to live in boxes. They’re comfortable and easily understandable. When we exist somewhere on a spectrum that’s ever evolving it’s often hard to pin point where we land and how to relay that information to others. We are attached to the things we do — like our jobs, and our hobbies. They define us in a really comfortable way.

So naturally, when we aspire to not hate ourselves, we often get stuck in this trap of self love.

Shame is NOT a good motivator.

When we being our journey to not hate ourselves by forcing a self love that doesn’t exist, it often results in an additional layer of shame that is neither productive or helpful. Now, not only do we have to work through the initial shame, but there’s extra because we’re already failing before we even start. This results in the worlds shittiest cycle, that never ends.

It’s time to bust out of that cycle and familiarize yourself with the in-between, with the discomfort that comes with always floating, always evolving.

This challenge will be one month long, and a new post will come out weekly with tips and tricks as well as homework for you to do with yourself. It will neither be comfortable or easy, but the best kind of things aren’t.

If you want to let me know how you’re doing on your journey, comment on the respective blog posts or post on social!

Know that even at the end of this challenge, you’ll likely have set backs. That’s how you know you’re doing it right. That’s how you know you’re putting in the hard work. This kind of stuff isn’t linear. It’s complicated, and messy, and hard. Let that not scare you away from it, because when you get to a point where the good moments start to outweigh the sucky ones, it’s incredibly rewarding.

With all that said, I hope you join me. And I hope, above all else, that you find some peace, some relief and some kindness.
